squid_logo_h_sm No, I personally do not like squid, perhaps to use for fishing, but Squidoo I do like! What is it?

Well, it is sort of a personal blog slash web site thingy, a place where you can place your authority information, life’s issues, products, and much more.  If you are a professional in a trade, business, or just want to rant about something, create a Squidoo account and start several “lenses”.  What is a lens?  These are essentially individual web pages that you create on a variety of subjects, focus, and or products you want to advertise.

Honestly, It is kind of hard to tell you exactly every feature of this cool product, so below are two lenses I made for the my Internet marketing business.  These lenses (pages) are still evolving, but you get the idea.

I would like to add that Squidoo is a phenomenal way to not only market yourself or your product, but it delivers incredible page rank, and visitors to sites that link to you, and your Squidoo page.  In fact, notice what a recent article from Seo-News.com said about the possible SEO affects.

“One important facet of your Squidoo lens is that it could be listed on Google, or any of the other search engines, for your major keywords, and you should not lose sight of any promotional techniques that provide you with free exposure on search engines.”

I say give it a try, then ping all the social bookmarking sites (buttons appear right on the Squidoo page) You have nothing to lose, and TRAFFIC to gain!

Here are my Squidoo lenses:

You bet.  Awhile back I did a post entitled “Why Start a Real Estate Blog.”  In that post I referred to an article CNN reported on, you can read about it here.  The bottom line is although the real estate market seems a little shaky, there are still opportunities for agents to sell, re-connect with clients, and more, with a real estate blog. But in addition to this, some are seeing the value of adding VIDEO to their blog!.  Let me give you an example. Where I live here in Wilmington North Carolina, a real estate agent with the local coldwell Banker (Alex Paen Group) has a great blog going, it’s called the Wilmington Advisor  They seem to post regularly, but the articles they post are relevant to the area, they keep people informed of local events, housing markets, mortgage news, and more.  But recently they did something I think eclipses any other real estate blog in this town, they made a video…genius.

Now the video is short and sweet, but you know what?, this is the next big thing.  Videos bring a personal element, something people can see and feel. I am sure they will improve more and more just as most people are in the YouTube age.  I hope the Alex Paen Team continues to make videos, this will only help to connect existing real estate clients, those looking to re-locate to Wilmington, NC, and more.

Local Search Engines

I could not believe my eyes this morning when I awoke and did some mundane searches on the Internet.  Low and behold, Google updated and changed the local search results page.  If you notice in this image, they now display 10 local business’s on the local search results, or Google maps. Before they only showed three (3) results, so this is a welcome improvement, especially if you want to list your business in Local search engines

How do you do this? Is your business listed in local searches? Is your competition already there?  Let me tell you, you better prepare your self and either learn how to submit your local business to local search engines, or out source this to a local Internet marketing company. This move by Google is a huge indication that these types of results or business inquiries are here to stay.  The days of the yellow book, or yellow pages may soon be replaced by Google Local, Yahoo local, and many others.

It does, so don’t get me wrong, properly worded anchor text is critical for link building, and ranking for keywords, but recently the buzz on the internet is that Google may or may not be penalizing sites that use the same anchor text repeatedly. According to some discussions, some web sites previously ranking in position #1 for “Home Run” words, have been dropped 4-5 positions….WHY?? Stay tuned, but for now word on the street is Google is basing this action on usage data.
It seems like landing pages with too many inbound links using exactly the searched keyword as the anchor text were picked up by Google’s filter. Web pages without word variety in their anchor text seemed to be outranked.
What is the solution? I recommend the following:

1) Use different but related keywords as anchor text for links to your site.
2) Stay tuned, I’m sure there will be more discussion on this.

MomI thought I would step away for a second from the marketing posts, and invite you to check out what my mother is doing.  Not only is she beautiful, but extremely talented.  My mother has found a way to blend her love and expression of writing with her make-up artistry business by posting regularly to her Make-up Artist blog called Artistry By Sandy.

Guess what? She is not through.  She just set up and created another blog that relates to her chronic illness known as Rheumatoid Arthritis.  The focus of this blog is more of a support group for those with Rheumatoid Arthritas that live here in Wilmington, North Carolina, or for that matter anywhere!

Please go check these sites out and drop her a note, she has worked hard on these herself with hardly any help from us!  My brother and I are very proud if her..

Love you Mom!
